What it is

Eva Naturals Azelaic Acid Serum is a lightweight, water-based formula that pairs azelaic acid with niacinamide and hyaluronic acid to address breakouts, post-acne marks, and redness in a single step. Azelaic acid is a dicarboxylic acid with well-documented antibacterial and tyrosinase-inhibiting properties, making it one of the more versatile actives available without a prescription. With a 4.3 out of 5 rating drawn from over 1,800 reviews, it has earned a strong following among shoppers managing more than one skin concern at once.

Who it's for

This serum is best suited for oily, combination, and acne-prone skin types dealing with active breakouts, post-inflammatory dark spots, or persistent background redness. It also works well for normal skin that wants tone-evening without heavy occlusion. Those with dry skin can use it, but will likely need a richer moisturizer layered on top, since the formula is hydrating rather than emollient. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult a healthcare provider before adding azelaic acid to your routine. Anyone with a known sensitivity to any of the actives should patch-test before committing to daily use.

How to use it

Apply a few drops to clean, dry skin after cleansing and any toning step, before heavier creams or facial oils. Start with once daily in the evening so your skin can adjust to the actives, then increase to twice daily if tolerated. Azelaic acid can cause mild tingling during the first week or two of use — building up slowly minimizes that response. In the morning, always finish with SPF 30 or higher. Azelaic acid does not sensitize skin to UV the way AHAs do, but daily sun protection is essential any time you are actively targeting hyperpigmentation.

Key ingredients

  • Azelaic Acid: Inhibits tyrosinase, the enzyme that drives uneven melanin production, helping fade post-acne marks and general discoloration with consistent use. It also exerts mild antibacterial activity against breakout-causing bacteria and carries a recognized anti-inflammatory effect, making it one of the gentler options for reactive or redness-prone skin.
  • Niacinamide (Vitamin B3): Works through a complementary pathway — reducing the transfer of melanin to surface skin cells — to improve uneven tone over time. It also helps regulate sebum production and reinforces the skin barrier, which makes it a logical companion to azelaic acid on acne-prone or sensitized skin.
  • Hyaluronic Acid: A humectant that draws water into the upper layers of the skin, helping offset any dryness or tightness the actives might cause and leaving the complexion looking plumper and more comfortable after application.

Pros & cons

  • Targets breakouts, dark spots, and redness in one formula, reducing the need to layer multiple actives
  • Azelaic acid and niacinamide are well-studied, evidence-backed ingredients with a strong safety profile
  • Hyaluronic acid makes the texture feel more comfortable than standalone acid serums
  • Lightweight consistency layers easily under moisturizer and SPF without pilling
  • Strong track record across a large reviewer base (4.3/5 from over 1,800 ratings)
  • Azelaic acid commonly causes initial tingling or mild flushing as skin adjusts — not a sign of damage, but noticeable
  • Visible improvement in hyperpigmentation takes weeks of consistent use, not days
  • Dry skin types may find the hydration insufficient as a standalone step
  • Very sensitive or compromised skin barriers should introduce this gradually and monitor for irritation

How it compares

If your primary concern is overall radiance and antioxidant defense rather than active breakouts, the TruSkin Vitamin C Serum with Hyaluronic Acid & Vitamin E takes a different route — it pairs vitamin C with vitamin E for oxidative protection and broad brightening, and tends to suit skin where sun-damage-driven discoloration is more of the issue than post-acne marks. For those who want targeted hydration without any actives — say, as a complementary step if this formula feels insufficient on dry days — the Tree of Life Hyaluronic Acid Serum for Face strips things back to pure moisture support and layers cleanly underneath.

The verdict

Eva Naturals Azelaic Acid Serum is a sensibly constructed multi-tasker. The combination of azelaic acid, niacinamide, and hyaluronic acid is grounded in solid cosmetic science, and together the three actives address the cluster of concerns — breakouts, dark spots, and redness — that tend to appear together on acne-prone skin. Results require patience and consistency; this is not an overnight fix. But for oily or combination skin types looking to consolidate their active serum routine into one straightforward step, it offers a practical, well-tolerated starting point backed by a meaningful volume of positive real-world feedback.

What shoppers say

★ 4.3average from 1.8k ratings on Amazon

Shoppers with rosacea and acne-prone skin report noticeable improvements in redness, breakouts, and uneven tone after consistent use. Several reviewers highlight how well it tolerates sensitive skin without causing the flaking or purging they experienced with other serums, and a number have repurchased multiple times as a daily staple.

The main caveat is mild peeling for some users, so those with already-compromised or very reactive skin may want to ease in slowly. Reviewers consistently emphasize pairing it with sunscreen during the day — skipping SPF while using an acid serum is a real concern worth heeding.

Excellent Azelaic for rosacea and sensitive skin!

Perfect for sensitive skin and rosacea! I use an Azelaic Acid, morning & night, at least 10%. This keeps the redness away by 80%. If I start to get red, I apply it more and use a great moisturizer (like ultra repair cream by First Aid Beauty or the glo cream by ALO ). I LOVE this particular Azelaic, because of the extras that have been added like hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, aloe, and more! It even has vitamin C, but it doesn't irritate the skin. You can't beat the value either! If this was sold in an Ulta or Sephora, it would cost $65 or more. It's super high quality! I've tried literal dozens too. Just shake it up and apply desired amount. It has a great dropper too! You have to try it!

Replaced my Curology Subscription!!

I had a Curology subscription for over two years and due to a change in their formula, I decided to unsubscribe. However, I never could find a good replacement and my skin reverted to hormonal acne with constant breakouts during and after my period that caused scarring. I looked at my formula details and saw what was prescribed so I searched and came across this product. My prescription was much lighter in dosage % and I wasn't sure if this would be too strong but this product is more than impressive. I noticed a change immediately! It's been several weeks now and even during my menstrual cycle, I'm not having the breakouts I normally would. My skin is so much clearer and even in texture. It's also helping with scarring and discoloration. I think I found my new Holy Grail.

Good stuff!

Really does work for evening out skin tone and healing irritations. I use it before bed. Next day, apply moisurizer and sunscreen. Do not use without the suncreen.

Part of my daily routine

I use to help with my acne and I really feel like it helps keep it under control. In the past, serums would become peely on my face or would break me out. I have never had this issue. I’ve bought the multiple times and will continue to

Eva Naturals Azelaic Acid Serum with Niacinamide & HA: frequently asked questions

What is the Eva Naturals Azelaic Acid Serum with Niacinamide & HA?

This lightweight serum bundles azelaic acid, niacinamide, and hyaluronic acid into a single treatment step. Azelaic acid works on uneven tone, post-breakout marks, and visible redness; niacinamide helps calm skin and minimize the look of pores; and hyaluronic acid keeps the formula comfortable by drawing moisture to the surface.

It is designed for anyone juggling acne-prone, hyperpigmented, or sensitive skin who wants a multi-tasking serum without a crowded shelf.

Can I use azelaic acid with niacinamide and hyaluronic acid?

Yes—this is one of the more compatible ingredient combinations in skincare. Niacinamide complements azelaic acid by supporting the skin barrier and easing redness, while hyaluronic acid adds hydration without interfering with either active.

Because Eva Naturals formulates all three together, you get that synergy without having to coordinate multiple products or stress over layering order—a genuine convenience for beginners and busy routines alike.

What goes first, azelaic acid or niacinamide?

Since this serum already combines both actives in one bottle, layering order is a non-issue here—you apply them at the same time. In a broader routine, use this serum after cleansing and toning on skin that is not dripping wet, then seal with a moisturizer.

Morning use should always be followed by SPF, as azelaic acid can increase sun sensitivity with consistent use.

What can I layer on top of azelaic acid?

After this serum absorbs, a fragrance-free moisturizer is the natural next step—ceramide or peptide formulas pair especially well. In the morning, always follow with a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher.

Hold off on layering additional exfoliating acids (glycolic, salicylic) in the same routine slot, as that combination can tip sensitive skin toward irritation. Calm, hydrating products on top will get you the furthest.

What should you never mix niacinamide with?

Niacinamide is unusually cooperative with most actives, but pairing it with a high-concentration vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid) in the same step can blunt the effectiveness of both. If brightening is a priority and you also rely on a vitamin C serum like the TruSkin Vitamin C Serum, an easy fix is vitamin C in the morning and this niacinamide serum at night.

Is Eva Naturals a good brand?

Eva Naturals is a US-based brand that focuses on affordable, ingredient-forward serums. This azelaic acid formula earns generally positive community feedback for its accessible combination of actives and comfortable texture.

It is worth noting that it is not a prescription-strength treatment—those managing more significant hyperpigmentation or persistent redness may eventually want a clinical option. As a daily maintenance step for mild-to-moderate concerns, it holds up well for its category.
