What it is
The SKIN1004 Matrixyl 10% Boosting Shot Ampoule is a concentrated serum built around a high loading of Matrixyl, a well-studied peptide complex recognized in cosmetic science for signaling skin to support its own collagen network. At 30ml it's sized as a targeted treatment rather than an everyday moisturizer, and it pairs that peptide load with hyaluronic acid to address surface dehydration at the same time. It sits firmly in the K-Beauty tradition of layering lightweight, functional actives rather than relying on a single hero ingredient.
Who it's for
This ampoule is a strong fit for anyone dealing with early-to-moderate fine lines, persistent dehydration, or skin that has started to feel less resilient than it used to. Normal, dry, and combination skin types tend to respond well to the texture. Oily skin can use it, though some may prefer to keep application to targeted areas rather than the full face. People with very sensitive or reactive skin should patch-test first, as concentrated peptide serums occasionally cause temporary flushing in reactive complexions. If your primary concern is active acne or hyperpigmentation rather than lines and dryness, this formulation is not optimized for those goals and a more targeted product would serve you better.
How to use it
Apply after cleansing and toning, before heavier moisturizers or facial oils — ampoules are designed to go on clean, slightly damp skin so the actives can absorb without competition. Dispense two to three drops, press gently across the face and neck rather than rubbing, and allow roughly 30 seconds for it to settle before the next layer. For most people, once daily in the evening is a reasonable starting point; those with resilient skin can move to morning and evening use. Because Matrixyl is not a chemical exfoliant, there is no photosensitivity concern, but finishing your morning routine with SPF remains non-negotiable when you are treating fine lines.
Key ingredients
Matrixyl (palmitoyl peptide complex): Matrixyl is a lipopeptide that communicates with fibroblast cells, encouraging the processes that maintain the skin's collagen and elastin matrix. At 10% it is present at a meaningful concentration rather than a label claim. The ingredient has a substantial body of cosmetic research behind it — it is not a fringe active.
Hyaluronic Acid: A humectant that draws moisture into the upper layers of the skin and helps maintain that hydration throughout the day. Its presence here means the ampoule addresses surface dryness and plumpness alongside the longer-term work the peptide is doing. Skin that is well-hydrated also tends to show fine lines less prominently.
Collagen: Listed as a skin-conditioning agent, topical collagen functions primarily as a hydrating film-former at the surface rather than replenishing structural collagen deeper in the dermis. Combined with hyaluronic acid it reinforces the immediate smoothing and moisture-retention effect.
Pros & cons
- High peptide concentration — 10% Matrixyl is a meaningful dose, not a trace amount
- Dual-action formula — addresses both fine lines and dehydration in a single step
- Lightweight texture — layers easily under moisturizer without pilling
- Well-reviewed — rated 4.4 out of 5 across nearly 740 shoppers, a reliable signal of consistent real-world performance
- No photosensitivity risk — peptides are morning-safe, unlike many actives
- Narrow focus — not formulated for acne, pigmentation, or texture concerns
- Topical collagen limitation — the collagen ingredient works at the surface; expectations around deeper structural renewal should stay realistic
- Small volume — at 30ml, daily full-face use will run through the bottle relatively quickly
- Patch-test advisable — concentrated ampoules are not universally well-tolerated by reactive skin on first use
How it compares
If dehydration is your dominant complaint rather than lines, COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence takes a gentler, barrier-repair approach with snail secretion filtrate as the hero ingredient — it suits sensitized skin that may find a high-peptide ampoule too active to start with. For shoppers whose routine already addresses dehydration and who want dedicated skin-smoothing work, the Matrixyl ampoule is the more targeted choice. The COSRX Snail Mucin 92% Face Moisturizer functions at the moisturizer step rather than the serum step, so it can complement rather than compete with this ampoule for those who want to layer both approaches.
The verdict
The SKIN1004 Matrixyl 10% Boosting Shot Ampoule earns its strong rating by doing a specific job well: delivering a high concentration of a credible peptide alongside solid hydrating support in a texture that plays nicely with the rest of a routine. It is not a universal skin-fixer, and shoppers chasing brightening, acne control, or deep structural change should calibrate expectations accordingly. For someone with dehydration and visible fine lines who wants a peptide serum without a complicated ingredient list, this is a well-formulated, evidence-backed option worth a sustained trial of at least six to eight weeks before judging results.
What shoppers say
Shoppers with sensitive and reactive skin — including those managing rosacea — report that this ampoule integrates smoothly into existing routines without triggering irritation. Most notice skin feeling visibly plumper and more resilient within a couple of weeks, and several use it comfortably alongside actives like retinol.
The most consistent criticism is the small fill size: at 30ml, some feel they're running low sooner than expected given the price-per-ml. A few reviewers also note results take longer than two weeks to fully assess, so patience is required before drawing conclusions.
This is going to be kind of a long review, but I want to include everything I was looking for when searching. I have been using a 0.1% retinol for a few months now, slowly building up frequency to avoid skin irritation. I have been doing daily use for awhile and was ready to move up to 0.2%. I actually tried the Ordinary first, but I was not a fan of that formula as it was very oily and did not layer well with other serums. I probably could have worked with it if I wanted to but I didn’t. So I ordered this to try instead and the formula is AMAZING. It’s exactly what I was hoping for, almost like a gel. There is no smell that I can detect. It absorbs quickly. It’s hard to say if it’s sticky because I use 3-4 products every night but it’s comfortable on my skin. It feels moisturizing and the price is very fair. I will definitely order another bottle until I’m ready to bump up to 0.3%. One thing I am not a huge fan of is the dropper. I have a hard time getting the dropper to collect the product even while the bottle is full. When it starts to deplete I hope I’m able to get it out. But if necessary, l will just tip the bottle and dab it on. I also did not notice it contains both retinol and retinal. I definitely feel like after 3 days I can already see a difference with the addition of retinal. I may not be able to go back 🤣
Read on Amazon ↗I’ve been a huge fan of this brand since when I first discovered K beauty way back, win the water fit sunscreen used to be made still and produce still in America and available on Amazon with the European filters instead of the American ones I’m allergic to. So with that said that should tell you everything about my faith and love of this brand because I’ve tried out their products consistently since then and quite often use several of items that they sell because it’s so good and nourishing for the skin I’m on my second bottle of this particular serum and I waited this long to leave a review because I really wanted to put it through 60 days of use before saying anything and let me tell you the results are real but the one thing people so commonly forget about VOLUFILINE and the one thing that most TikTok stars and folks on YouTube won’t tell you is it what point to layer this particular ingredient into your beauty routine, which is after all of your serums in right before your moisturizer and some skeptics might even point out that it may be even better depending on the viscosity to apply it after your moisturizer because you want that moisture to be right underneath it in order to help it work more effectively, however in this case because the viscosity is that of a milky lightweight serum , I tend to use this after my toners, my growth factor serum then I will put on my antioxidant serum of choice, whether that be vitamin C or the multi antioxidant by the ordinary, and then I will go on and put on a couple of other accommodations of serums, which would be usually either the ARENCIA holy HYSSOP serum 30 or the probiotic one from this brand which is listed as an ampoule , but still the same and then lastly, any sort of hydrating serums then on top of that layer this and that is when you’re gonna see the true effectiveness of this another thing before giving my review I would like to know is typically you will be told not to put VOLUFILNE over the entire face because you want to target the areas that you specifically want to plump out, however with this being predominantly a matrixyl 3000 serum as well, I do tend to put it all over my face and then come in with a second dose on my spots that needed, and when I’m saying doses and amounts and I’m using very little a little bit goes a long way with this stuff. I just always try to point it out to be more helpful to folks because I noticed that so many people are like I first was which is I’m using this new special ingredient everybody’s talking about but it’s not working for me! Well, let me tell you once you start using it the way that I was taught- then everything changes !! But that said the serum is in in a very nice size bottle and should last you a long time! when you first get it, you’ll notice that the texture is a very lightweight milky sort of serum. It goes down on the skin and it’s got no stickiness to it. It just soaks right in your skin sucks it in it loves it and this is coming from somebody who used to have dry skin but now has oily combo skin so I’ve been on both ends of it and I can tell you this would be a great serum for either person or any skin type because it’s super lightweight and not greasy at all and so comfortable to wear or apply down before make up!! but also so deeply nourishing because of its ingredients!! now that I’ve spoken so much in detail about the VOLUFILINE ingredient because it’s such a mainstream like highly disgusting ingredient right now, don’t let that fool you in the thinking that the serum isn’t just a powerhouse full of tons of megadose ingredients that are amazing for your skin, including, but not limited to the previous previously mentioned Matryxil 3000!!! any Dermatologist will tell you that if you are dealing with sagginess or aging concerns of any kind this is the ingredient you wanna go for and then to look at that and then pair it with the idea that the other star ingredient the VOLUFILNE is mind glowingly effective, and amazing combination! And to get the most out of it, I suggest you use it morning and night, and you can use it either in the technique of just applying it to the places that need it like for me would be my smile lines, the crevices underneath my eyes that make me look like I have dark circles and my forehead, and I have a place right at the top of my nose from throwing my eyebrows that’s not quite 11s. It’s like sideways 11s, if I were going to use that technique that’s where I would put it however with the specific serum I have been using it everywhere and I have seen dramatic results but like I said, I waited past at least a 30 days before pushing out this review because I wanted to get full use and give it enough time to actually show results because anything prior to 30 days or anyone giving a review prior to 30 days is not giving a completely honest one our skin takes time to generate and to do what it needs to to show anything as far as progress !! last, but certainly not least because this is an important factor for me, this is completely fragrance free as I’ve noticed with all their products which I admire so much because in the beauty realm even the prestige brands that cost so much money contain fragrance, which is an absolutely unnecessary and actually harmful ingredient for the skin so I admire that and I think the company for that it makes it safer and easier to use knowing that my conscience is clear and I’m not applying loads of harsh chemicals or even worse essential oils all over my face (I’m allergic) . Anyway, sorry for the long winded review however, I hope I’ve helped somebody out there and make a decision on this product because if I could recommend any certain amount there, it would definitely be this one instead of maybe the more mainstream ones.(including a very well-known VOLUFILINE serum that you see all of the beauty, Youtubers and TikTokers, exclaiming about.), after you’ve tried them all like I have, including that one, you’d also realize that this is the most highly potent and effective way of doing this because it gives you two huge power houses in One that are gonna make some pretty amazing strides in your skin care routine. So if you’ve chosen the serum then congrats you are headed in the right direction and you will be so impressed and around 30 to 60 days just be patient.
Read on Amazon ↗I highly recommend all skin1004 products. These products have helped my skin so much. I have rosacea and after starting a skin1004 routine, my rosacea isn't as bad and its calmed down inflammation, skin irritation, hot face. I highly recommend for people who suffer from rosacea. I use this along with other centella skin1004 products.
Read on Amazon ↗So far, I'm loving the way the SKIN1004 Retinol makes my skin feel. I have been using it about 2 weeks, so I've not used it quiet long enough yet to see the full effects, but I can definitely tell more softness and firmness of my skin. I've rated at 4 stars because my first container came and nothing would come out. I'm not sure if it was dried out, or if the dropper was defective, but I could pick nothing up from inside the bottle. I contacted customer service, which I give 5 stars plus, as they replaced the product immediately and did not trouble me with having to take the time to send the first bottle back. I love every Centella product I've ever tried and I'm not regretting adding the retinol to my daily skin regimen.

SKIN1004 Matrixyl 10% Boosting Shot Ampoule 30ml: frequently asked questions
What does the SKIN1004 Matrixyl 10% Boosting Shot Ampoule do?
This lightweight ampoule delivers a 10% concentration of Matrixyl — a peptide complex (palmitoyl tripeptide-1 + palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7) that signals the skin to produce more collagen — alongside hyaluronic acid for immediate hydration. The combined effect targets fine lines, loss of firmness, and surface dryness over consistent use.
Think of it as a hydration-plus-firming step rather than a single-purpose serum. Results from peptide actives are gradual; expect noticeable changes in skin texture and plumpness after several weeks of daily use, not overnight.
What age is SKIN1004 Matrixyl suited for?
The formula is designed for anyone dealing with early-to-moderate fine lines, dehydration, or diminishing firmness — typically mid-20s and older. Younger skin with no anti-aging concerns gets limited benefit from a peptide-focused ampoule; a simpler hydrating step would suffice.
Skin type is a non-issue: the water-based, non-comedogenic texture works for oily, dry, combination, and sensitive skin alike. Those with reactive skin generally tolerate it well since the ingredient list avoids common irritants like fragrance and alcohol.
Is it better to use this ampoule in the morning or at night?
It works in either routine, and daily morning-and-night use is fine — the formula is gentle enough for twice-daily application. If you're choosing one slot, peptides like Matrixyl pair naturally with a nighttime routine when skin repair processes are most active and you're not layering SPF on top.
In the morning, apply it after cleansing and toning, before moisturizer and sunscreen. At night, layer it under a richer moisturizer or sleeping mask to lock in the hydration from the hyaluronic acid component.
Can I use SKIN1004 Matrixyl every day?
Yes — daily use is recommended and how you'll see the best results. Matrixyl peptides and hyaluronic acid are well-tolerated actives with no exfoliation or purging involved, so there's no need to cycle them. Consistent daily application over four to eight weeks is what the clinical data behind Matrixyl is based on.
That said, if you're stacking multiple actives (retinol, acids, vitamin C), keep this as your hydration-and-peptide layer and avoid mixing it directly with low-pH exfoliants, which can reduce peptide efficacy.
What should I layer over this ampoule?
Follow with a moisturizer to seal in the hyaluronic acid — HA needs occlusion to stay effective, otherwise it can pull moisture from deeper skin layers in dry environments. A ceramide cream or gel moisturizer works well. In the morning, finish with SPF.
If you want to add an essence step before the ampoule, a hydrating option like the COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence layers cleanly underneath without conflicting actives.
Is SKIN1004 Matrixyl a good anti-aging option?
It's a solid, evidence-backed choice for early anti-aging. Matrixyl (palmitoyl tripeptide-1 + tetrapeptide-7) has peer-reviewed studies supporting its role in collagen synthesis and wrinkle reduction — it's one of the more researched peptide complexes available. At 10%, this is a meaningful concentration, not a trace amount.
Caveat: peptides are not as fast-acting as retinol or prescription tretinoin. If you're managing deeper wrinkles or significant texture concerns, this ampoule works best as part of a broader routine rather than as a standalone fix.
Is it safe to use this ampoule alongside tretinoin?
Yes, peptides and hyaluronic acid are compatible with tretinoin. Many dermatologists actually recommend pairing a hydrating, peptide-rich product with tretinoin to offset dryness and support the skin barrier during retinoid use. Apply the ampoule first, let it absorb, then layer tretinoin over it — or use them in separate AM/PM routines if your skin is sensitive.
Avoid mixing this directly with low-pH vitamin C or AHA/BHA acids in the same application step, as acidic environments can degrade peptide molecules.
