What it is

The Eclat Renewing Retinol Serum is a multi-tasking facial serum built around two well-studied actives: retinol, a form of vitamin A that accelerates cell turnover, and hyaluronic acid, a humectant that draws moisture into the skin. Aloe vera rounds out the formula as a calming, skin-conditioning base. The combination is designed to address fine lines, uneven tone from dark spots, and the kind of dullness that comes from dehydrated, sluggish skin.

Who it's for

This serum suits adults who are beginning to notice fine lines, mild hyperpigmentation from sun damage or post-acne marks, or skin that feels persistently dry and lackluster. The hyaluronic acid and aloe make it a reasonable starting point for those new to retinol who want some built-in moisture support to offset dryness during the adjustment period.

People who should skip it include those who are pregnant or breastfeeding (retinol is not recommended during pregnancy), anyone already using a prescription-strength retinoid, and those with an active rosacea flare or a significantly compromised skin barrier. Very sensitive skin types may find retinol too stimulating regardless of how the formula is buffered.

How to use it

Apply this serum at night only — retinol degrades in sunlight and increases photosensitivity, so daytime use is counterproductive. After cleansing and any water-based toning step, dispense a pea-sized amount and press gently into dry skin before your moisturizer. If your skin is new to retinol, begin two to three nights per week and increase frequency gradually over four to six weeks as tolerance builds. Always follow the next morning with a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher; that step is non-negotiable when retinol is part of your routine.

Key ingredients

Retinol is the headline active. As an over-the-counter vitamin A derivative, it works by binding to retinoid receptors in the skin to speed cellular turnover, which over time helps fade hyperpigmentation, smooth fine-line texture, and discourage congestion. Results are gradual — most users see meaningful change after eight to twelve weeks of consistent use.

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring molecule capable of holding many times its weight in water. In a serum it acts as a humectant, drawing moisture toward the skin's surface to counteract the transient dryness and flaking that retinol can trigger, especially early in use.

Aloe vera contributes a soothing, anti-inflammatory effect. It has a long track record in cosmetic formulation for calming redness and providing a lightweight conditioning layer — a useful buffer alongside a potent active like retinol.

Pros & cons

  • Pairs retinol with hydrating and calming ingredients, reducing the likelihood of excessive dryness during the adjustment phase
  • Targets three common concerns — fine lines, dark spots, and dehydration — in a single step
  • Extensively reviewed, with over 75,000 ratings providing a substantial real-world feedback base
  • Accessible format for shoppers who are retinol-curious but cautious about jumping to high concentrations
  • Retinol can trigger an initial purging or irritation period regardless of supporting ingredients — first-time users should expect a transition window
  • The product does not prominently disclose retinol concentration, making it difficult to benchmark potency against other serums
  • Not suitable for daytime use, limiting routine flexibility for those who prefer a single serum
  • Long-term, consistent use is required to see results; those expecting rapid improvement may be disappointed

How it compares

If brightening and antioxidant protection are higher priorities than anti-aging, TruSkin Vitamin C Serum with Hyaluronic Acid & Vitamin E takes a daytime-friendly approach: vitamin C addresses hyperpigmentation through a different mechanism and carries no photosensitivity concern. For shoppers who want to lead with hydration and keep their retinol separate, Tree of Life Hyaluronic Acid Serum for Face is a focused, single-active option that layers well under a standalone retinol product and gives you more control over each ingredient's concentration.

The verdict

The Eclat Renewing Retinol Serum is a practical, accessible entry point into vitamin A skincare for adults targeting early signs of aging and uneven tone. The hyaluronic acid and aloe vera inclusion helps cushion the retinol adjustment period without making the formula feel heavy, though it won't prevent all of the initial sensitivity some users experience. The very large review pool points to consistent real-world satisfaction over time. Ultimately, as with any retinol product, patience and disciplined morning SPF use are what convert a decent formula into visible results — this serum holds up its end of the bargain if the routine habits are in place.

What shoppers say

★ 4.3average from 75.7k ratings on Amazon

Most buyers highlight a noticeably fast-absorbing, lightweight feel that sits comfortably under moisturizer and makeup without stickiness. Regular users report brighter, more even-looking skin over time, and several appreciate that the formula is grounded in recognizable, science-backed ingredients—enough that some have moved to a subscription.

A minority flag texture concerns: at least one shopper found the consistency heavier than expected and not well-suited to acne-prone or congested skin. Reviews also skew toward Vitamin C rather than the retinol formula specifically, so results for retinol-focused users may vary.

Finally Ordered and I Love It – My Skin Feels Amazing!

I got a sample of the Eclat Skincare Vitamin C Face Serum a few months ago, and even though it was just a tiny sample, I was so impressed. The texture, feel, and results were noticeable right away, so I knew I had to get the full size. I finally ordered it and I absolutely love it. I like how my skin feels after using it. It is smooth, hydrated, and looks brighter, even with just applying it during the day when I am at home. The serum absorbs quickly, doesn’t feel sticky, and leaves my skin feeling refreshed and nourished. I also love that it targets dark spots and includes vitamin C and hyaluronic acid, which makes me feel like I’m really doing something good for my skin. The quality feels high-end, and I feel confident knowing I am using a product that is effective and gentle. Overall, this serum has quickly become a favorite in my skincare routine. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to brighten their skin, hydrate, and improve overall skin texture.

So far, so good!

Dec. 15, 2025, initial review: I received the Éclat Vitamin C serum and cream one week ago. It’s been a great addition to my routine. I’m 59, my dad was a dermatologist. I’m big into skincare and only use products backed by science. I like the consistency of the serum. It’s like water, so it mixes great with The Ordinary Buffet with Copper Peptides and Growth Factor serums. Apply mixed in a bottle, your hand or one at a time. All formulas compatible to do either. Next, I add my Rx Retin-A 0.05% to the Vitamin C cream, so it’s easier to spread the Retin-A (tretinoin). This is so perfect. They are ideally compatible. So far, no burning, redness or peeling with the added Vitamin C products. Make sure you treat your face, neck, chest and hands exactly the same, so none of them give away your age! My goal for the added Vitamin C is to even out my skin tone. I have very minimal sun damage. I haven’t tanned since 10th grade. But, we can always improve our skin tone and texture. The cream is a velvety smooth gel-cream texture, which is fabulous. It’s unscented, also good. The serum dries quickly, absorbs easily, as does the cream. No greasiness or oiliness during the day or breakouts. I use It Cosmetics powder foundation and Maybelline Age Rewind concealer. Both are great and compatible with all the products mentioned, and all available on Amazon. I will update review with results after I finish the first bottle and jar, then again in 3 months and 6 months. Be mindful of sun exposure when using Vitamin C, Retin-A or anything that increases cell turnover, so you don’t get burned, accidentally. I prefer sunscreen with clear zinc, and/or mineral barriers, rather than chemical sunscreens. I think Éclat products are very well formulated and reasonably priced. Results TBD!

Vitamin C

I’ve been using the Eclat Skincare Vitamin C Serum for a while now, and I’m happy enough with the results that I have it on subscription. The serum is lightweight, absorbs quickly, and layers well under my moisturizer and sunscreen. I’ve noticed my skin looks brighter and more even over time, and some of my dark spots have started to fade with consistent use. The combination of vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, and ferulic acid gives my skin a hydrated, healthy glow without feeling greasy or heavy. It hasn’t caused irritation for my skin, and I appreciate that it feels gentle while still being effective. Results are gradual, but with regular use, it definitely makes a difference. Overall, it’s a good value for the price, and I plan to continue using it as part of my daily skincare routine and I have a monthly subscription

Heavy Texture That May Not Suit Acne-Prone Skin

While I was excited to try this popular toner for its soothing ingredients like Teatree and Niacinamide, it didn't quite work for my specific skin type. Here is a breakdown of my experience: Texture & Weight: Contrary to many "watery" toners, I found this formula to be not very lightweight. It felt a bit heavy on my skin and didn't absorb as quickly as I had hoped. Skin Reaction: Unfortunately, after a few days of consistent use, I noticed it started to clog my pores. This eventually led to some breakouts, which is the opposite of what I was looking for in a "Miracle Toner." Application Issues: Because of the heavier feel, I noticed it didn't sit as well under my other skincare products. Additionally, I experienced some eye irritation if the product got anywhere near my lash line, so you have to be very careful during application. Final Verdict: While the ingredients list is impressive, this product was too heavy for my sensitive, acne-prone skin. If you have oily skin or are prone to congestion, I would suggest patch-testing this first, as it may be too rich and cause further breakouts.

Vitamin C Serum

My skin has never looked brighter. A few drops in the morning make a huge difference in texture and radiance. Absorbs quickly without leaving a sticky residue. I love that it works well under makeup and layers nicely with my other skincare products.

Eclat Renewing Retinol Serum with Hyaluronic Acid & Aloe Vera: frequently asked questions

What is the Eclat Renewing Retinol Serum used for?

This serum is formulated to target three common skin concerns: fine lines and wrinkles, dark spots and hyperpigmentation, and dryness. Retinol accelerates cell turnover to smooth texture and fade discoloration, while hyaluronic acid draws moisture into the skin and aloe vera soothes any potential irritation from the retinol.

What skin types is this retinol serum best for?

The formula suits most skin types, including dry and combination skin, thanks to the added hyaluronic acid and aloe vera, which buffer retinol's drying potential. Sensitive skin types can still use it but should start slowly—every other night—to gauge tolerance. Those with active rosacea or eczema should consult a dermatologist before introducing any retinol product.

How do you use the Eclat retinol serum?

Apply a pea-sized amount to clean, dry skin after cleansing and toning, then follow with a moisturizer to lock in hydration. If you're new to retinol, use it two or three nights per week and build up gradually. Always apply SPF the next morning—retinol increases sun sensitivity and skipping sunscreen will undermine your results.

What is the best time to apply retinol serum?

Nighttime is the right time. Retinol degrades in UV light, making it less effective if worn during the day, and your skin's natural overnight repair cycle makes it more receptive to cell-turnover actives while you sleep. Apply this serum as the last step before your moisturizer, well after any water-based serums have absorbed.

What should you never mix with retinol?

Avoid combining retinol with other strong exfoliating acids—AHAs like glycolic acid, BHAs like salicylic acid, and benzoyl peroxide—in the same routine, as stacking them amplifies irritation and barrier damage. Vitamin C serums are better saved for mornings. If you want a brightening boost at night, a dedicated brightening option like the TruSkin Vitamin C Serum with Hyaluronic Acid & Vitamin E works well on alternate evenings.

Is Eclat a good skincare brand?

Eclat positions itself as an accessible, ingredient-forward brand with a focus on combining active ingredients like retinol with skin-calming hydrators. The inclusion of hyaluronic acid and aloe vera alongside retinol reflects a thoughtful formulation approach. As with any brand, results vary by skin type, so checking third-party reviews and patch-testing before committing to a full routine is a smart move.

Why do some dermatologists caution about hyaluronic acid?

The concern is context-specific: in very dry or low-humidity environments, hyaluronic acid can pull moisture from the deeper layers of your skin rather than the air, potentially leaving skin feeling drier. The fix is straightforward—apply it to damp skin and seal it with a moisturizer immediately after. In this serum, the aloe vera base and the instruction to follow with moisturizer help address that issue.
