What it is

The Maybelline Super Stay Teddy Lip Tint in Kneehigh is a lightweight, mousse-textured lip color that applies like a cloud and dries to a soft, velvet-matte finish. Unlike traditional lipsticks, it delivers a diffused, blurred effect—color that looks like it's coming from inside your lips rather than sitting on top. Kneehigh is a warm nude-mauve with subtle rosy undertones, designed to work across a range of skin tones without reading too pink or too brown.

Who it's for

This tint is a strong match for anyone who wants all-day lip color without the weight or stickiness of a gloss or the dryness sometimes associated with classic matte lipstick. It suits oily, combination, and normal lip types particularly well—the mousse formula stays in place without migrating into fine lines around the mouth when lips are kept in reasonable condition. People who like a lived-in, effortless makeup look will find the blurred finish especially appealing.

Those with very dry or chapped lips should proceed with caution. Matte tint formulas cling to texture and can exaggerate flaking. Prepping with a lip scrub and a thin layer of balm (wiped off before application) helps significantly, but if your lips are chronically dry, a moisturizing lip oil or tinted balm may be a more comfortable daily option. Anyone seeking high-shine or glossy results should also look elsewhere—this formula dries completely flat.

How to use it

Start with clean, exfoliated lips for the smoothest result. Apply the doe-foot applicator directly to the center of your upper and lower lip, then blend outward toward the corners using the wand or your fingertip for a softer, gradient edge. For fuller coverage, layer a second pass before the first coat fully sets—once dry, this formula is difficult to blend further. The tint performs best applied in thin, buildable layers rather than one heavy coat.

The Super Stay formula is designed for all-day wear with minimal touch-ups. Apply it as the last step in your makeup routine, after foundation and concealer. Eating and drinking will gradually fade the center of the lip first, leaving a natural stain at the edges—this is a characteristic of most long-wear tints and can actually look quite flattering.

Key ingredients

Specific ingredient details for this formula are not published in our product data, so we'll focus on what's typical of mousse-style lip tints in this category. The airy, whipped texture is generally achieved through film-forming polymers that create a flexible, breathable layer over the lip surface as the formula dries down. Pigment concentration in tints tends to be lower than in traditional lipstick, which contributes to the lightweight, buildable feel. Because this is a lip product with prolonged skin contact, it typically avoids heavy occlusive oils that would break down wear—which is also why it can feel less conditioning than a balm-based formula on drier lips.

Pros & cons

  • Lightweight, non-sticky wear that doesn't feel heavy throughout the day
  • Velvet-matte finish gives a modern, blurred-lip effect without needing a lip liner
  • Kneehigh's warm nude-mauve shade has broad flattering range across skin tones
  • Well-reviewed across a large pool of shoppers (4.2 out of 5 from over 13,000 ratings)
  • Buildable coverage—sheer wash of color or more saturated look, depending on layers
  • Can settle into lip lines and emphasize texture if lips aren't prepped beforehand
  • Matte formula offers no conditioning benefit; may feel tight on dry lips over time
  • Once fully set, blending or correcting edges is difficult—precision on application matters
  • Not a formula for anyone who wants glossy or hydrating lip color

How it compares

If you're building out a full-face routine alongside this lip tint, consider pairing it with a reliable eye product. The Maybelline Lash Sensational Sky High Mascara in Blackest Black shares the Super Stay line's focus on long-wear performance and has a strong reputation for building length without clumping—a natural complement to a low-maintenance, matte lip look. For a completely different approach to multitasking color, the e.l.f. Monochromatic Multi Stick in Sparkling Rose offers a cream-to-powder finish that works on lips, cheeks, and lids simultaneously—better for dry lips and a dewier overall aesthetic, though with less staying power than the Teddy Tint.

The verdict

The Maybelline Super Stay Teddy Lip Tint in Kneehigh delivers on its core promise: a comfortable, featherweight matte tint that stays put through a full day of wear. The mousse texture makes application feel effortless, and Kneehigh is a versatile, wearable shade that earns its place in a practical everyday makeup bag. The main caveat is consistent across the entire matte tint category—dry or textured lips will need prep work, and this formula won't do any moisturizing on its own. If your lips are in good shape and you want a no-fuss, modern matte that won't need constant reapplication, this is a well-executed option at a drugstore price point. If you prioritize comfort and hydration above longevity, explore balm-tint hybrids instead.

What shoppers say

★ 4.2average from 13.2k ratings on Amazon

Shoppers are impressed by the pigmentation and versatility—the formula builds from a barely-there wash to a more saturated look, glides on smoothly, and genuinely anchors itself to lips for six or more hours without transferring to cups or masks. Most find the finish lightweight rather than heavy or sticky.

The main caveat is dryness: those with already-parched lips often find the formula uncomfortably tight, especially with a generous application. Reviewers who do like it emphasize using a thin layer and allowing full dry-down time—skipping either step tends to amplify the drying effect. People with dry or sensitive lips may want to patch-test first.

WAY TOO DRY - LIKE THE SAHARA

UPDATE: So I gave this another try. I applied an even thinner layer than I did before & I believe that’s the key to a success outcome. I still find this to be on the drier side. However, based on all the positive reviews, this may be worth a try for others. Just not for me. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Ohmygosh - this lip product is so DRYING. Based on all the positive reviews, I was truly looking forward to using this. I’m 60 yrs old and I love lip stains, my favorite being Wonderskin. However it’s not always the most convenient to use. I’m fortunate that lipsticks do not bleed into fine lines around my mouth and I do not suffer from dry lips. I did do a gentle scrub before applying, but this just didn’t work for me. I can’t help but wonder if I received a “lemon” or something was wrong with it. I applied a thin layer and let it dry, but I had to stop there. However I wanted to give it a fair chance and wore it for almost an hour. Then I couldn’t get it off quick enough. I wasn’t expecting this to be a super hydrating product & anticipated some dryness, but not like this. It’s a lovely shade, “Wild at Heart,” so 2 stars for that.

Great color pay-off, comfortable, excellent price.

EWG rating of 3, lovely staying power, not overly drying, amazing colors to choose from, under $9??? Could this stuff be any better??? Personaly, I don't think so. I love it. but I do understand some of the complaints. If you want this to wear well, you do need to let it dry down completely. It absolutely CAN be sticky if you put it on too thick, and then, like nail polish, it just won't ever really dry down. I do not think it is actually drying to the lips, although I have noticed there are slight differences in this between colors. But in order to have the best possible look, comfort, and application, you really need to exfoliate, and then prep with a good chapstick. I use lanolin, actually, and it works great. Knee-high is a fantastic color if you're a soft summer with neutral to cool olive skin. As far as hours of wear, yeah, you're not going to look perfect after 12 hours. BUT, if you french-style smudge it out in light layers, let it dry, and have properly prepped your lips, you can absolutely get a gorgeous 5 hours even with eating and drinking. I think that's as realistic as you can ask for, and for the price and ingredients, that makes it a winner.

Stays, looks natural, and doesn't dry out lips.

I've been looking for a new long lasting lip color since my go to color brand for years has been discontinued! I've tried more than a couple of brands, they haven't worked. The Maybelline Super Stay teddy is wonderful. Love the color, it stays for at least 6 hours and does leave residual color tint until removed at night. The matte finish looks great, and oh, so natural. It sets up really fast but does not dry out my lips. Love the price point, This is my new go to, please, please don't discontinue color, or formular!!

Incredible staying power

The color is great and it goes on so smooth. I cant believe how well it stays, like I got nervous bc once it dried down it really wouldn't budget. It didnt transfer on anything either. I love that I can have crisp clean lines or blur the edges for a softer look and its buildable. The only thing I didnt like was that no matter how long I had it on, my lips always felt sticky/tacky.

Maybelline Super Stay Teddy Lip Tint – Kneehigh: frequently asked questions

What is the Maybelline Super Stay Teddy Lip Tint in Kneehigh?

The Super Stay Teddy Lip Tint is a liquid lip color with a soft, plush-matte finish and a doe-foot applicator. Kneehigh is a warm, medium-depth nude-brown shade — earthy enough to work on a range of medium to deeper skin tones. The formula is designed to deliver buildable, tinted color that wears through meals and drinks without constant touch-ups.

How long does Maybelline Super Stay Teddy Tint last?

Maybelline claims up to 16 hours of wear, and most users find it genuinely long-lasting through meals and coffee — though full-day wear depends on how oily your lips are and how often you eat. Expect the color to fade at the inner lip first, leaving a soft stain at the outer edges rather than disappearing evenly.

Is Maybelline Teddy Tint drying?

It can be. Like most long-wear liquid lip formulas, the Super Stay Teddy Tint tends to settle into a matte finish that accentuates dry patches or fine lines if lips aren't prepped. Applying a light lip balm beforehand and letting it absorb before layering the tint on top helps a lot. It's not the best choice for chronically dry or chapped lips without that extra prep step.

How to make Maybelline Teddy Tint not sticky?

The formula can feel tacky in the first minute or two while it's drying down — this is normal. Applying one thin, even layer and waiting about 60 seconds for it to set fully resolves most of the stickiness. Avoid pressing your lips together while it's still wet. If you layer too heavily it stays tacky longer, so less product works better here.

How to remove Maybelline Teddy lip tint?

Because it's a long-wear formula, regular lip balm or water won't cut it. A micellar water on a cotton pad, a cleansing oil, or a dedicated makeup remover dissolves it cleanly. Rubbing dry can irritate lips, so soak the cotton pad first and press it against your lips for a few seconds before gently wiping.

What shades are available in the Maybelline Super Stay Teddy Tint line?

The line includes a range of nudes, pinks, berries, and reds — popular shades include Skinny Dip (sheer nude-pink), Coquettish (rosy pink), Keep It Cozy (warm mauve), and Kneehigh (warm nude-brown). Availability varies by retailer, and some shades rotate in and out of stock. Checking swatches online is worthwhile since the names don't always hint at the actual undertone.

Who is the Maybelline Teddy Tint in Kneehigh best suited for?

Kneehigh's warm, neutral-brown tone is especially flattering on medium to deep skin tones as an everyday nude, and works as a subtle statement shade on lighter complexions. It suits anyone who wants a low-maintenance lip look that still reads polished — no mirror needed for touch-ups mid-day. If you like a full-coverage bold lip, you may want to layer for intensity since it builds from sheer to medium coverage.
